Birthdays, & another dog!

image

Thankful for a blessed dinner treat at the reservoir on Friday, and so very thankful for a sweet birthday celebration for my dear niece, Kaelyn today! We celebrated it in advance so more of our loved ones could join, and it was nice just being in good company.

Of course, all the effort was simply to bless her, and seeing her happy and laughing made it all worthwhile. Thanks to talented Linda who made the cake & cupcakes – she loves Barney!

And guess who we have at home now? 🙂 Junior! Staying with us for a few days while Bren’s uncle & family goes for a staycation @ Resorts World. Seeing little Gypsie and him interact was hilarious, and it was fun having them both around.

The Usual

I took some time this past week to intentionally reflect and to count my blessings. When several tragedies occur around the world in such a short period of time, it’s even more important to hold on to the positive things. The smallest things. The normal things. The usual. Because for many, the usual is not the usual anymore…

Normalcy in my past week:

Thank God for these little, precious blessings. 🙂

Welcome Gypsie!

Dog-sitting Bren’s friends’ dog while they holiday in Europe for about 2 weeks! It’s so nice having dear Gypsie around, and she definitely reminds us of our dog-sitting days of Pammie. Except that she doesn’t bark or grumble as much, and eats a lot lesser than greedy Pammie, haha. It was really cute seeing her get a little frightened of our robot cleaner this morning, and we’re looking forward to having blessed 2 weeks with her!

What a great weekend. 🙂

The cell group celebrated our birthdays after church service today, and it was so sweet hearing our dear friends appreciate us. Such sweetness in fellowship!

Hope you’d a fantastic weekend too!!

So much hurt..

Today has truly been a day of God’s display of His love.

In the darkest & dirtiest of situations, light & purity shines brightest. It really breaks my heart to have encountered so many hurting people in one day, but I know it has to be for a reason…

A hurting parent (see a pattern for my week??) with no qualms on sarcasm and nasty complaints, hurting children who fought over who did what first, hurting one of my staff (!) in the process, and lastly, hurting strangers who sat next to me during my quiet dinner, sharing stories with abandon over their ex-boyfriends & ex-husbands, their number of abortions, and on how money is basically the most important thing to secure their future.

Sigh..

While the very last thing I will want to do is to judge these people, I’m simply appalled and very much saddened by these issues that seem to be so common…just like seeing someone throw trash in the rubbish bin, and feeling completely indifferent about it.

And if it breaks my heart so much, how much more so it will be for God, our loving Creator?

Here I am, praying and waiting for Bren and I to have godly children of our own… And here there are people who are excitedly sharing that they’ve gone for 3 abortions.

Three?!?

Makes me tear just thinking about it.. 😦

The light.

The little spark of light is so precious on days like this. The light shining brightly through a stranger’s super-chubby adorable baby smiling & cooing at me in the train on my way home. His large, round eyes were so, so beautiful.

The light shining ever so brightly also through sharing laughter with my team of wonderful colleagues, that though all of us have our weaknesses, through Christ we can love and conquer nasty parents together. After all, we are all but works in progress. And such challenging incidents and trials will only show God’s grace clearer, His light shining so much brighter, keeping us at His feet, yearning, praying, soaking, surrendering…and so I thank God for today.

For it has been yet another day of Christ’s redeeming and indescribable LOVE.

Cannellini Bean Herb Spread

Made some of these over the weekend, and they go well with crackers & salads!

1 cup dry Cannellini beans

1/4 cup olive oil

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tsp thyme

1 tsp rosemary

1/2 tsp sea salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1. Soak beans overnight. Drain and rinse beans and put into medium-sized saucepan. Add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil.

2. Reduce heat and simmer for about an hour. Drain and rinse with cold water.

3. Add all ingredients into a food processor/blender, and blend till smooth/how you’d like it. That’s it!

On a side note, my sister-in-law just gave me really nice soaps & pouch – can’t wait to use them!

Casually tossed the spread with food that I’d at home (smoked salmon, baby spinach, blueberries, almonds, avocados…and a ton of chia seeds) for a simple and healthy salad for our dinner tonight!

God of HOPE

Decided to have a spontaneous dinner out by myself in town after work since Bren had an event going on. Found myself making my way to Mos Burger at Raffles City, and I must say, it’s really pleasant to see that ALL of their frontline staff were elderlys! I had a few other customers sitting next to me complaining of that very fact, which disturbed me a little…but oh well, to each his own.

These elderly staff were by no means frail or weak, and their deep sincerity in service and intentionality of heart made my dinner that much more enjoyable. Granted, their movements were definitely slower, but I honestly don’t mind. 🙂 It makes me happy knowing that the older generation is welcomed and appreciated in the work force. God is indeed, a God of Hope!

Had a blessed time there reading devotional emails, jotting down my thoughts for the day, and simply enjoying my solitude with Him.

Later, bought some groceries & flowers for the home, and came back to a chocolate surprise from Bren! God is good.

God has done it all…

Looking at my organizer’s list of to-do.s for today, I’m pleasantly surprised at how I’ve managed to complete all that I had set out to do. My days are usually interrupted with a dozen other things to do, and then some. So while I’m thankful for those days too (when God shows me He has completely different plans in mind!), it’s still nice to look at all the ticks for the day.

All by His grace. His amazing, amazing grace.

Grace that saw me through a tricky situation with a defensive parent and her sick child. Grace that encourages me to persevere and not to give up in the face of opposition. Grace that gives me wonderful opportunities to reach out to others with His beautiful presence of love. Grace that grants me His wisdom to see things from His viewpoint, and not by my limited human vision. Grace that reminds me not to look back on the past but to move forward with faith & courage towards my future that’s totally in His hands!

Grace, simply because God has given me everything – everything I need, for life and godliness. God has done it all.

And that, sums up my lovely Monday. A day, fullofHisgrace.
